School Visits

There are a range of activities at Bircham WIndmill for schools to enjoy.

There are two different options depending on the time available for your visit, option one is approx 4 hours, option two approx 2 hours. Children can have a tour of the windmill, going up to different levels depending on age and time available.

Bake bread - this is very popular. A member of staff will involve the children in how bread is made and the ingredients used and then the children get to handle and mould the dough, making any creation they wish.

Meet the animals - children can see the milk sheep and feed them through the fence. We also have a pony, donkey, goats. There are also guinea pigs and rabbits which can be handled. Sheep milking is done daily at 2pm, children can get close up to the sheep and see them being milked.

We also have a small play area and garden area which allows time and space for some free play.

We can help teachers to tailor their visit relevant to the topics they are currently studying with many resources available. We have worksheets available for both KS1 (click here) and KS2 (click here).

We have picnic facilities and an onsite tearooms for teas, coffees and snacks for adults. There is also a small gift shop with toys and souveniers as well as the bakery selling individual cakes. We have toilets and handwashing facilites close to both breadmaking and the animals.
